Assistive Communication Devices

Case Study: Assistive Communication Devices

In my case study, I decided to choose Assistive Communication Devices, because these  Assistive devices are an essential part of communication evolution as well as, these devices can help people to tackle their disability. Also, I strongly believe that disabled people feel isolated from the society, so I decided to choose this case to engage these targeted people in the community life.

Assistive devices are used to describe different methods that can be used to help people with disabilities communicate with others. For example, When a hearing problem cannot be corrected medically or surgically, hearing aids are usually recommended to meet these communication needs. For those with profound or severe hearing loss, a cochlear implant may be the treatment of choice. Due to technological advancements in recent years, today's hearing aids do an excellent job of helping people meet these needs. However, sometimes there are situations where additional technologies may be needed. For instance, some hearing aid users may continue to experience difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments, from a distance, as when watching TV or attending a movie or play, or while listening on the telephone. At bedtime, a person with even a mild to moderate hearing loss may not hear the smoke alarm located down the hall and behind a closed door if he or she is in a deep sleep and the hearing aids have been removed.

My focus will be on assistive listening devices (ALDs) or Hearing Assistance Technology (HAT), which are available to help people with all degrees of hearing loss to meet these significant communications needs.

  1. Be careful you are not doing too much copy/paste or paraphrasing and not including your own response to this. How does this link to your project? Will you be developing a specific device for use, or software that could be used on multiple platforms? You need to be adding more of your own voice to your posts Mohamed and adding the context that we spoke about in your feedback to show how this is all feeding in to your own work and developing your project and skills.
